No, don’t put gasoline in your body. That is NOT what I am talking about when I say fuel your body. Although, the analogy rings true – treat yourself like your absolute dream car. You wouldn’t put unleaded fuel in that!
What I am talking about are the foods you eat. One of my favorite takeaways from my personal journey with hot yoga (that many others have shared as well) is that you can no longer ignore the inside of your body. As you purge and detox through sweating, facing yourself in the mirror and finding new space in your body, you cultivate a deeper love and respect for what your body is capable of, and the lengths it goes to each day to support you. You find you want to treat it with kindness, and maybe for the first time ever, say ‘thank you.’
You drink more water.
You eat more wholesome foods.
You fuel appropriately.
You keep showing up on your mat.
Finding the right fuel for your body is certainly a journey in itself. As Kaitlyn Wong, RD and yoga teacher likes to say, “You are your own science experiment.” IT IS SO TRUE! What works for me may not work for you. It’s not a one size fits all. But what I do know, is that a variety of whole foods work for all of us. What are whole foods? Apples, carrots, spinach, chickpeas, broccoli, chicken, etc. Figuring out what that perfect combination of fruits, vegetables and proteins YOUR body needs can be exciting and frustrating at the same time. One of my absolute favorite things to do is to help others find that perfect combination of foods.
When should I eat? How much should I eat? Am I getting enough of X? If you are reading this and asking these questions, email me! Let’s have some fun finding your perfect fuel.
