The current situation of the world is calling on some major stress, anxiety and probably more emotions than we can put into words. As we move through this time, it’s more important than ever to feel your breath move throughout your body and to notice the simple state of feeling alive. This moment is full of uncertainties, and things that we don’t know. Sometimes when we are moving through uncertain parts of our lives, it’s important to try and focus on the certainties.
What do I know right now?
One thing I think we all have in common is that we know our yoga practice serves a huge importance in our day-to-day lives. It’s easy to fall into negative thought patterns when so much is happening around us, and it’s even easier when the one physical place that we go to get out of our heads and into our bodies is not readily accessible due to unprecedented circumstances.
Even though this community cannot physically be there with you practicing, we are all moving together in spirit every day. We are all together in one way or another, doing the same practice with the teachers that we know and love through the Hot Room’s virtual studio. The energy is there, and it’s more alive than ever.
It breaks my heart that we cannot be practicing in the Hot Room all together right now, as I’m sure it does for you. But while it’s heating up for our return, you can create this space for yourself in the comfort of your own home. That space is still there for you. Empower yourself to take what you have learned in that room and formulate a place, specific to you and what you need to create space in your life right now.
What do you need to do in order to access that power and headspace that you do when you are in the Hot Room?
- Maybe it’s lighting a candle next to your yoga mat or turning on your oil diffuser in the room?
- Maybe you keep your mat in the same space that you’ve built for yourself?
- Maybe you change up locations in your house for change of scenery?
Whatever space that is for you, know that you have the power to create the same kind of energy that you feel in the Hot Room, and we are right here with you. How lucky are we to have something to miss so much? And how luckier are we to be able to stay connected to such a strong and powerful community through Facebook, Instagram and our virtual studio classes.
And I bet you are wondering, how are we coping without practicing hot yoga in the Hot Room?
I go back to the idea of focusing on the things that we can control and the things that we cannot. While our physical space has been temporality redirected to the digital world, this community continues to get stronger and stronger, mentally and physically. And we feel it. The best way to move through this uncertainty is stay connected to the people who lift you up and motivate you to keep moving. You all keep us going! That day that we burst through the doors of THR is going to be a reconvene of a lifetime. And we cannot wait for that day and to see all of your faces in person again soon!
In the meantime, remember to breathe – everything else is optional.
