My name is Caleb Frey, and I am an instructor and a student at The Hot Room.
Can you share a favorite memory from your time at THR in the last ten years?
We always talk about it inside and outside of class that you always remember your first class and I definitely remember mine! In December of 2013, they had been open for about 3 weeks and I practiced every day for 2-3 months and then became a teacher. Just being able to see the transformation of not only the space but also what Hye Jin and Ash have developed. There are hundreds of people that come in daily to practice. So, it’s truly an inspiring place to come to and it’s amazing to see the community they’ve built over the last 10 years.
What keeps you coming back to the hot room?
Our community aspect and the daily challenge of pushing yourself. And then the friends you develop while you’re at The Hot Room. There are so many relationships that you can foster. Not only in the room when you are in there with someone working your butt off and sweating with them. But then also after yoga, you walk out of the classroom and the studio, ready to go share a drink or dinner with them.
How has THR community affected you, your life, your lifestyle?
It’s really helped keep me accountable by coming in to continue my practice and really pushing myself on a daily basis while I’m here. And while I’m practicing becoming a better person and better in the community.
What does THR mean to you?
Being able to walk into a place and really being able to transform your life is really meaningful and it’s amazing to have this space to be able to really let go of anything that is happening in the outside world.
What is your hope for the next ten years? In your practice, our community, growth of THR, etc?
I would love to be a part of it and continue to push myself and see where the studio goes in the next 10 years. And getting to watch Maya and Annika continue to grow because I remember seeing them when they were just little babies. So, watching them continue to grow along with the space and the community!
