Whether you’re new to yoga or just new to hot yoga, our supportive community and experienced instructors are here to help you every step of the way!

Starting hot yoga and heated fitness as a beginner is the first step on a transformative journey. Many of our members began as beginners and have experienced incredible physical and mental growth through their practice. Hot yoga and heated fitness not only improves flexibility, strength, and endurance, but it also promotes mental clarity, stress reduction, and emotional balance. The progress you make, no matter how small, is a testament to your dedication and resilience.

Stepping into your first hot yoga class can be both exciting and a little daunting. To help you make the most of your experience, here are some tips to prepare you for your first session:

1. Stay Hydrated
  • Before Class: Drink plenty of water throughout the day leading up to your class. Hydration is key because you’ll be sweating a lot!
  • During Class: Bring a water bottle and take small sips as needed.
  • After Class: Continue to drink water and add in Superiuer or LMNT electrolytes to replenish the fluids lost during the session.
2. Dress Appropriately
  • Lightweight Clothing: Wear moisture-wicking, breathable clothing that allows for a full range of motion. Avoid heavy fabrics that can become uncomfortable when wet.
  • Minimal Layers: The room will be hot, so opt for minimal, fitted layers.
3. Bring the Essentials
  • Yoga Mat: A good quality mat with good grip is essential. The Hot Room offers yoga mats to rent, but your first rental is FREE!
  • Towel: Bring a large towel to cover your mat and a smaller towel to wipe off sweat during the class.
4. Eat Lightly
  • Before Class: Have a light meal or snack 2-3 hours before class. Avoid heavy meals that can make you feel sluggish or uncomfortable during practice.
5. Arrive Early
  • Get Acclimated: Arrive at least 15 minutes early to get used to the heat and set up your space.
  • Meet the Instructor: Introduce yourself to the instructor and let them know it’s your first class. They can offer helpful advice and modifications.
6. Pace Yourself
  • Listen to Your Body: It’s normal to feel challenged by the heat. Take breaks when needed and don’t push yourself too hard.
  • Stay in the Room: If you feel overwhelmed, try to stay in the room and sit or lie down. Leaving the hot room suddenly can be a shock to your system.
7. Focus on Breathing
  • Deep Breaths: Concentrate on taking slow, deep breaths to help you stay calm and centered.
  • Breath Control: The heat can make breathing feel more intense, so focus on maintaining a steady breath.
8. Use Props
  • Blocks and Straps: Don’t hesitate to use props like blocks or straps to help you achieve the poses more comfortably.
  • Modifications: Feel free to modify poses to suit your level of flexibility and strength.
9. Post-Class Care
  • Cool Down: Take a few minutes to cool down and relax after class.
  • Shower: If possible, shower shortly after class to rinse off the sweat and refresh your skin.
  • Rehydrate and Refuel: Drink plenty of water and have a healthy snack to replenish your energy levels.
10. Maintain a Positive Attitude
  • Be Patient: Progress takes time. Celebrate your small victories and be patient with yourself!
